If your business is like many other organizations that are in the process of enabling a Microsoft Azure public cloud platform, then you might be struggling with the guardrails needed to secure and manage cost, while at the same time enabling flexibility for the teams consuming cloud services. While the Azure platform is already very secure, it also allows a great deal of flexibility in configuration. In order to avoid accidentally creating security holes and out-of-control spend, a Governance Framework is required. We created the AHEAD Azure Governance framework to allow enterprises to develop and maintain a fully optimized, and secure environment. The resulting framework will be tailored to your organization’s specific business and compliance needs, as every enterprise is different. This guide will introduce you to the components of this necessary Azure Foundational Governance Design.

"Agile companies push new application versions to production every few weeks, sometimes even faster. With super-fast Beta cycles being the norm, getting various user groups, such as remote QA teams, access to staging environments can slow down your delivery timelines. What if you could enable secure access for any number of users in 15 minutes? BubblewrApp’s Service Access Service (SAS) is a turnkey, cloud-based service that acts as the first line of defense for your applications. BubblewrApp’s SAS enables its customers to grant easy access to applications deployed ""behind the firewall"" (on premise) or ""inside the Virtual Private Cloud"" (in a public cloud) from any remote location. Customers can begin leveraging SAS within minutes without requiring any changes to pre-existing network and security policies. The result is a vastly superior secure application access model that enables a zero CapEx, low OpEx model for secure application access, both on premise and in the public cloud."

The European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will be upon us on May 25th 2018, and contrary to enduring public opinion, Brexit won’t make any difference. The GDPR comes in response to global shuffling of privacy laws to meet the growing demands of cloud, data security and other technological needs. The US Safe Harbor framework has been replaced with Privacy Shield, and on top of this is the e-Privacy Regulation, which takes specific interest in electronic communications, cookies for tracking user behaviour online, and other issues around personal data and consent.

The cloud market is moving forward as reflected in both the evolving perspectives voiced by IT decision-makers and by the business success of cloud service providers. On perspectives, Stratecast’s recurring annual surveys reveal that public cloud adoption has now reached a much-awaited tipping point with a percentage of the 2014 survey respondents stating that they currently use public cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), and another percentage stating they will too within the next months. On cloud service providers, the business results of Amazon Web Services (AWS), now in its eighth year and still rapidly growing, make a similar statement. This report describes how AWS is breaking the “cloud not secure enough” adoption barrier and, in the process, injecting innovation into the competitive dynamics of the security market.

It is no secret; security and compliance are at the top of the list of concerns tied to cloud adoption. According to a recent 2017 Cloud Security survey to over 350,000 members of the LinkedIn Information Security Community, IT pros have general concerns about security in the cloud (33 percent), in addition to data loss and leakage risks (26 percent) and legal and regulatory compliance (24 percent)1. The number of reported breaches in enterprise datacenter environments still far exceeds the reported exposure from cloud platforms, but as businesses start using public clouds to run their mission-critical workloads, the need for enterprise-grade security in the cloud will increase. Public cloud environments require a centralized, consolidated platform for security that is built from the ground up for the cloud, and allows administrators to monitor and actively enforce security policies. The tools and techniques that worked to secure datacenter environments fail miserably in the cloud. Se

As of May 2017, according to a report from The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), which provides financial transaction and data processing services for the global financial industry, cloud computing has reached a tipping point1. Today, financial services companies can benefit from the capabilities and cost efficiencies of the cloud. In October of 2016, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Office of the Comptroller of Currency (OCC) and the Federal Reserve Board (FRB) jointly announced enhanced cyber risk management standards for financial institutions in an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR)2. These proposed standards for enhanced cybersecurity are aimed at protecting the entire financial system, not just the institution. To meet these new standards, financial institutions will require the right cloud-based network security platform for comprehensive security management, verifiable compliance and governance and active protection of customer data

AWS is the most widely deployed public cloud infrastructure as a service (IaaS) solution in the world and is a leader in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for IaaS (see "Magic Quadrant for Cloud Infrastructure as a Service"). AWS offers a large number of built-in security capabilities (see Note 1), and questions on the proper practices for securing workloads in AWS are increasing.1 AWS is a not a "consumer grade" IaaS cloud. It is a market leader, with a portfolio of security capabilities and security ecosystem partners unmatched by other IaaS providers. However, simply moving existing workloads to AWS without rethinking security tools, processes and system management will result in workloads that are less secure than they were when located within enterprise data centers. Conversely, a properly managed and secured workload in AWS will be at least as — and, in most cases, more — secure than in an enterprise data center.

Building out a dedicated infrastructure with the agility, scalability, and effciency of a public cloud—while enjoying increased levels of control and security—can help enterprises boost agility and improve operational ef?ciency. However, while most private cloud networking services provide basic load balancing functionality, they lack important application delivery features, putting the performance, availability, and security of applications at risk. As private clouds increasingly host mission-critical production applications, advanced application delivery services for layers 4 through 7 are becoming essential. End-to-end integration, orchestration, and automation of the needed application delivery networking and security services are also critical to improve application time-to-market and operational ef?ciency.

With the rate of cloud spending predicted to outpace overall IT spending six to one over the next few years, organizations are rightly concerned about ensuring that applications in the cloud enjoy the same level of security as apps deployed in data centers. Using the public cloud does alter your attack surface area—and leveraging multiple public and private clouds (aka multi-cloud) does so even more. Some threats get bigger, some get smaller. Some even go away, or at least drift out of your control, while new threats should move front and center in your security thinking.

Companies are increasingly moving data and applications to public cloud platforms. Sometimes these transitions happen with IT’s approval and guidance; sometimes they don’t. Regardless, a company that stores data and uses applications in multiple public clouds creates a challenging environment for the security architect. It’s difficult to gain visibility and control of the security posture when the organization relies on an assortment of disparate cloud platforms that all take different approaches to security and offer different tools. And it’s hard for a small security staff to stay on top of disparate solutions that fail to integrate.
