Knowledge and strategic relationships fuel many organizations in today’s rapidly changing, global economy. As such, organizations need to leverage the individuals—and their networks—that possess the most relevant knowledge, whether they are current employees or are only loosely connected to the organization. To do this, organizations should create and leverage peer collaboration networks that enable them to identify and connect with individuals who have the unique skills, knowledge, and capabilities these organizations need. Bersin’s Research, Why Reputations and Networks Matter in the Open Talent Economy, indicates that this approach works in driving value—organizations that have effectively used internal reputation networks and profile databases have been able to increase key metrics such as employees’ time to productivity and innovation levels.

Improving the customer experience is a strategic imperative for most organizations today, but delivering an engaging experience across the growing number of digital customer touch points can be a daunting challenge. Organizations must deliver responsive experiences that “play well” on smartphones, PCs, and tablets. They must publish content to installed app experiences on mobile and other connected devices, to social channels, and to email campaigns. They must manage global sites in different languages, localize the experience for different markets, and — increasingly — personalize the experience for different customer personas or segments. A modern digital experience management platform is essential for any organization hoping to make digital experience delivery a core competency. IDC interviewed organizations using Adobe Experience Manager Sites (AEM Sites) to understand the impact of the platform on their ability to create, manage, and deliver digital experiences. Disruptive innovation, new business models, and globalization have accelerated the rate of change for every business. To stay competitive, organizations are revising their business models, product sets, and other critical aspects of their operations on a much more frequent and continuous basis. These organizations realize that real-time strategic planning and performance management are not just “nice to have” but “must have” capabilities. Yet many organizations still struggle to implement these capabilities. As a result, they’re unable to quickly revise their strategies, implement plans, and monitor results.

Cyber-crime is forecast to cost the global economy $6 trillion by 2021, up from $3 trillion in 2016. Described by some as the “greatest threat to every company in the world”, public concern for the safety of data is growing – not just in how criminals might use stolen data to commit fraud, but also in how personal data is used by the organizations we engage with.

The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) has shown incredible promise across a wide range of industries. But the benefits of automation have mostly occurred through Robotic Process Automation (RPA), which automates repetitive, mundane tasks – liberating workers to focus on higher-level business initiatives that only humans are capable of providing. After successful trials in most of the world’s largest organizations, automation and AI are poised to transform the global workplace. Making Work Human: 5 Challenges, research by Goldsmiths, University of London, supported by Automation Anywhere, seeks to uncover the main obstacles that organizations must now overcome in order to scale automation and AI, and recognize the true potential of these ground-breaking technologies.

To best support global users and customers, enterprises require seamlessly connectivity between branch office locations, applications, and workloads hosted in the cloud. Many WAN solutions are ill-equipped for this task because they are generally rigid, complex to configure, and expensive to maintain. IoT adoption, a dramatic increase of the number of network devices, and the sophistication of security threats further compounds this challenge. Geographically-distributed devices need secure cloud connectivity, limiting the ability of existing WAN solutions to fulfill the need of distributed organizations. Cisco SD-WAN on Amazon Web Services (AWS) is an overlay WAN architecture that is designed to address modern enterprise cloud applications and workloads, heterogeneous WAN connectivity, distributed global workforces, and other business needs that traditional WAN solutions cannot meet. The WannaCry ransomware attack in May 2017 crippled the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) and disrupted a range of organizations across 150 countries. Despite being a relatively unsophisticated attack, WannaCry was able to make such a global impact due to preventable vulnerabilities that had largely gone unaddressed. There were many more attacks in 2017, including high-profile breaches at Uber and Equifax, where heeding cyber-security recommendations may have reduced the impact and fallout. The scale and sophistication of cyber-attacks is not slowing down – ranging from phishing scams to cryptocurrency-based cyber-attacks, to statesponsored attacks on industrial control systems. These attacks present an ever growing challenge and serve as a reminder that organizations cannot afford to be complacent in the face of cyber threats. With cybercriminals threatening nations globally, cybersecurity is taking a front seat in many regions. Most notably, the European Union (EU) has adopted regulations to combat the threats. Against the backdrop of increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks, the EU has set forth rules and procedures for enhanced cybersecurity, along with penalties for noncompliance, in the form of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This new body of mandated policies and procedures aims to protect EU member personal information collected and/or stored by organizations. Read more in the GDPR business brief.

Artificial intelligence (AI) leads the charge in the current wave of digital transformation underway at many global companies. Organizations large and small are actively expanding their AI footprints as executives try to comprehend more fully what AI is and how they can use it to capitalize on business opportunities by gaining insight to the data they collect that enables them to engage with customers and hone a competitive edge. But, while AI may indeed be the frontier of enterprise technology, there remain many misconceptions about it. Part of the confusion stems from the fact that AI is an umbrella term that covers a range of technologies — including machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, deep learning, and more — that are in various stages of development and deployment. The use of AI for dynamic pricing and targeted marketing has been in use for a while, but actual AI computing where machines think like humans is still many years from becoming mainstream. T

Gartner clients often ask for a comparison of BMC and ServiceNow as viable strategic partners in the ITSSM tool space. Both vendors provide strong ITSSM offerings and benefit from excellent global brand recognition, but the similarities end there. Outside of ITSSM, BMC and ServiceNow are two different companies with two different strategic road maps. Choosing between BMC and ServiceNow requires IT organizations to determine how value will be gained beyond the use of their ITSSM offerings.

The energy landscape has become increasingly complex. Globally, we’re relying less on centralized, steady power sources – such as gas-fired and coal-fired power stations – and more on mixed, locally-distributed renewable energy supplies including solar, wind, tidal and battery. While this is positive for the environment and carbon emissions, it makes balancing power grids a much more complex task. Power quality and reliability becomes more variable in output, while demand for power continues to increase steadily. But when it comes to energy resilience, many organizations simply don’t know where to start. What solutions are available? Which are the best ones for their specific situation and physical premises? What will be their return on investment? Is it simply the cost of doing business, or is there actually a business case? The guide will give you the tools and data to build your understanding and quantify the benefit for your organization.

Curves® and Jenny Craig® operate 7,000 Curves clubs and franchises globally and 400 Jenny Craig locations supported by IT service desks in California, Texas, and Australia. The two organizations combined to form Curves Jenny Craig in November 2013. Outdated systems, known internally as “the black hole,” plagued Jenny Craig with inefficient processes and created a lack of accountability. For example, records could not be categorized or prioritized properly, tracked by date or owner, and they could be intentionally hidden in an ambiguous status. Without visibility, Jenny Craig had no way to quantify the impact of their customer service. Mary Carter, manager of IT service, summed it up, “We had no reporting prior Cherwell Service Management.” Curves was in even worse shape as they logged tickets in an Excel® spreadsheet.
