ESG recently conducted a quantitative research study to assess companies’ IT Transformation maturity. ESG found that operating a modern server environment, defined as an environment in which operations tasks are more automated than manual, led to a perception of cost parity with the public cloud. Nearly half felt their cost of compute was highly competitive with CSPs and another 48% felt it was generally comparable. This compares favorably to the 19% and 47% respectively among organizations running a legacy server environment. Download this solution brief from Dell EMC and Intel® to learn more.

Disaster recovery (DR) and long-term retention of data, for security as well as regulatory compliance, can be very challenging for mid-sized organizations. Keeping a secondary site up for DR can get very expensive and dealing with tape can be slow and costly. As a result, many mid-sized organizations are looking to the efficiencies of the cloud, such as scale, elasticity, agility, and lower initial storage costs, to expand their data protection environments. Check out this easy-to-absorb infographic to learn how to achieve powerful, converged, easy to deploy and manage, cloud-ready data protection.

To become more effective, enterprises must fast-track projects to digitally connect their organizations. Building value and providing compelling customer experiences at lower cost requires more than a quick technology fix; it demands a business and technological commitment to a new target operating model (TOM). This operating model should offer a way of running the organization that combines digital technologies and operational capabilities to achieve improvements in revenue, customer experience and cost. Enabling digital capabilities via the TOM is an ongoing process that requires DevOps skills and agile development techniques. This is easier to achieve with partners that have the requisite capabilities to help with the creation of new digital assets

The IoT is transforming the energy industry by eliminating tradeoffs between operation, SCADA systems, maintenance and new services for assets deployed in industrial and power facilities, buildings and across the grid. When it comes to building the best IoT system for your business application, it’s vital to keep your use case and business requirements at the forefront of your technical design strategy. In the energy industry, accessing and collecting data at the edge from disparate, heterogenous, multi-site, fixed topologies and transferring that data efficiently to the cloud to perform analytics and action business decisions is still the greatest challenge. Mission-critical data collected from the edge is integral to energy facility operations and cannot be excluded or corrupted.

The hybrid cloud has arrived for the enterprise, but it comes with a complication: the speed of light. Between the cloud and the end user (including IoT devices that count as ‘users’), there is an emerging need for an intermediate environment that can satisfy real-time compute requirements without incurring the latency of reaching all the way to the cloud. ‘Edge compute’ is the phrase used to describe what covers this middle ground, but the optimal location for edge compute resources remains open to question.

Digital transformation will fail without a commitment to automation - what AHEAD refers to as Relentless Automation. With the advent of public cloud and all of its promise, along with the ripple effect from the DevOps mantra of “automate everywhere”, technology teams must spin up new infrastructure, maintain configurations, and set up and tear down environments much faster than ever before. Of course, no one should automate for the sake of automating, or to simply be ahead of the curve. But while not every activity warrants automation - whether due to the complexity and nuance of the task, or its infrequent occurrence - Relentless Automation means identifying those tasks and processes where the benefits of automation outweigh both its upfront and recurring costs. Thankfully, the business benefits of standardizing and automating IT work are easy to spot: > Freeing up staff for higher value work > Reduction in errors and process variability > More auditability and accountability, helping

Digital Requires a New Level of Insight and Control Digital strategies have caused business executives to intensify their scrutiny of how technology affects bottom line performance. With a growing emphasis on differentiating the customer experience in highly competitive markets, these executives want to understand how their IT systems affect everything from brand perception to customer acquisition and loyalty. 3 | A Guide to Intelligent Operations Meanwhile, those same demanding business leaders lack appreciation and patience for the complexity of today’s digital technology environment. While applications and user experiences are simpler and more intuitive, the backend processing, application interdependencies, and underlying infrastructure are more complex than ever, even in light of the benefits of abstraction, virtualization, and cloud computing (see Figure 1.) While CIOs have long been expected to improve stability and uptime - and done a pretty good job of it - the stakes are much

Digital Business Continues to Move the Cyber Goal Posts Fortune magazine estimates that by the year 2020, US companies will spend $101 billion per year on cyber security, up 38% from 2016. With all of the money being invested in cyber security, why do the pace and complexity of new security threats continue to rise year after year? A big reason is that today’s digital business involves a more mobile workforce with expectations of immediate and on demand access to data fronted by intuitive and engaging user experiences, and often underpinned by public cloud infrastructure for increased agility and time to market.
