Financial institutions (FIs) must support the channels and services that consumers demand in order to remain competitive with each other and with disruptive competitors. To that end, supporting account opening, delivering new transactional features, and facilitating payments through digital channels have become table stakes. Unfortunately, the speed and convenience that these capabilities afford is a benefit to consumers and fraudsters alike. To successfully prevent fraud while retaining the benefits of offering digital financial services, FIs must understand how fraudsters are exploiting these capabilities and fight fraud with customer experience in mind.

Platform businesses are reshaping our economy and disrupting entire markets by seamlessly connecting buyers and sellers. However, processing payments and the exchange of value on a platform or marketplace can be challenging. Stripe commissioned Forrester Consulting to evaluate the challenges that platforms and their sellers face, and the solutions they seek. Through a global online survey of 2,030 platform sellers and four in-depth interviews, Forrester found that platforms struggle to provide their sellers with much-needed payment capabilities, reporting, and customer support services with in-house resources alone. Meanwhile, sellers demand that platforms provide these services and will prefer platforms that are service-rich over platforms that are service-poor. KEY FINDINGS • The complexities of managing a platform force executives to divert resources, which stalls growth. • Going global is easier said than done. • Sellers will flock to platforms that simplify the process of sellin

obile Payments have emerged as a catalyst for transactions across all markets. In underdeveloped markets, mobile payment technology is enabling businesses to sell products and services to consumers that had previously been out of reach. In developed markets, it has made the process of purchasing products and services even simpler. PayPal, one of the most popular digital payment solutions on the market, facilitated $66 billion in payment volume throughout 2015, and now has 188 million active registered user accounts across the US. Furthermore, Statista projects that mobile payments will account for more than $210 billion in transactions by 2019. Mobile payment technology is a step forward in the process of connecting businesses to the people they are serving. However, some merchants will find themselves miles behind their competitors by the time the transition to mobile payments is complete. The reason? A failure to implement the correct mobile payment strategy. An ever-increasing numbe

At the center of every shopping experience is the payment process. The way that brands connect their products and services to their customers, and in turn receive their payments, is the foundation upon which shopping is built. Digital payments, both online and in-store, are transforming that foundation. 80% of Americans are now shopping through online channels on at least a monthly basis, and digital payments have become a primary stream of revenue for brands across all channels1. While offering digital payment options has the potential to simplify life for customers and increase conversion rates, they are creating an additional layer of complexity that is challenging to keep up with. Between the expanding number of digital payment technologies, the increasing number of devices payments can be completed on, and the continuous blurring of digital and physical buying experiences, it is critical to ensure payments will be successful for every person on every device and in every location.

Banks today are continuously challenged to meet rigorous regulatory requirements. They must implement strict governance programs that enable them to comply with a wide variety of regulations stemming from the financial crisis that began in 2007, including the DoddFrank Act, Basel Committee on Banking Supervision regulations, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Revised Payment Services Directive (PSD2) and the revised Markets in Financial Instruments Directive To keep pace with regulatory changes, many banks will need to reapportion their budgets to support the development of new systems and processes. Regulators continually indicate that the banks must be able to provide, secure and deliver high-quality information that is consistent and mature.

Data must be complete, correct and consistent to maintain confidence in risk reports, capital reports and analytical analyses. At the same time, banks need ways to monetize, grant access to and generate insight from data

The biggest headache for most payment operations teams is cost control — and a large part of it comes from fraud management: Investigation teams waste large amounts of time just assembling the data needed to make decisions. Detection engines are always playing catchup with the latest fraud patterns. Ever changing regulations increase the time and cost required to reach compliance and meet audit standards. Given their scope and impact, replacing core fraud systems is not an option for most firms. But instead of replacing them, you can improve the investigative process with augmented investigation, and improve the detection process by enhancing current systems. This whitepaper describes three ways financial services firms can use TIBCO solutions to lower the cost of investigations through faster results, reduce fraud losses through better detection, and simplify audit and regulatory compliance through centralized access to information.

As the financial services industry moves away from its historic focus—on high margin business, banking, brokerage, insurance, trading, wealth management, and payment companies—they must rethink and strengthen the ways they interact with markets and customers. Organizations that fail to provide personalized services for their clients or to satisfy increasingly demanding customers will struggle to keep their position as competitors innovate at every turn.

Much has been written about Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2) and its potential to herald a new era of open banking where banks no longer have a monopoly on payment services. Instead they will be forced to provide full access to customer accounts to third parties looking to provide financial services of their own, on top of banks’ existing data and infrastructure. All of this could prove to be true, just not on January 13th 2018, the deadline for national governments to transpose PSD2 into law. This is because there is still so much to be decided and clarified. The European Banking Authority’s longawaited regulatory technical standards (RTS) on strong customer authentication (SCA) were issued in March 2017 but missing some of the finer details, such as the methods to remotely access customer data and account information and the measures around the use of application programming interfaces (APIs) and screen-scraping.

In today's economy, companies are trying to assess if they can afford to become PCI compliant. What many of those same companies forget to consider whether they can afford not to be compliant. Since 2007, merchants who were found to be non-compliant with PCI DSS faced fines of $5,000 to $25,000 per month from Visa. It may seem expensive for merchants to install and maintain new security measures to become PCI compliant and validated, but these costs are only a fraction of what it would cost a company to be found in non-compliance or suffer a data breach. Learn more about PCI DSS compliance and how NeoSpire Managed Hosting can help.

Snapper, a New Zealand-based company that develops custom account-based solutions, was creating an online concessions payment program for local students and needed a way to enhance the security of their personal information on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The solution had to further protect online student profiles and associated payment details stored in Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) against malware and threats.
