Modern data centers based on hyperscale, leaf-spine switching architectures are growing so large and complex they are outstripping the capacity of operators to engineer, configure and manage these networks using traditional tools and techniques. As a result, data center operators are looking for new ways to automate workflows, maximize uptime and increase operational agility while reducing operating costs

The focus of SDN is on transforming the network to support applications and meet the expectations of users and businesses that rely on them. Scaling modern networks is challenging due to the explosive growth of compute, network, and application resources-combined with increased mobility of apps migrating to the cloud and users across multiple devices. As an approach to operationalizing the network, SDN enables organizations to achieve greater economies of operational scale through the use of APIs to automate and orchestrate the network, as well as the application services that support applications. Read this whitepaper to learn how applications are driving new requirements for both businesses and networks that require disruptive, radical change.

Craig Mathias, Principal of the Farpoint Group, explores the advent of cooperative control, an innovative new class of wireless infrastructure from Aerohive Networks. Aerohive’s cooperative control architecture gives you all of the benefits of autonomous access points and controller-based infrastructures, without the high OPEX or CAPEX associated with either approach. Cooperative control architecture represents an innovative approach to wireless LAN systems, one that incorporates a number of interesting features and corresponding benefits.

IT groups must support many applications and servers across multiple platforms that frequently operate independently of each other. However, coordinating job scheduling across all these applications and networks is often required to optimize resource utilization. The traditional approach of applying more staff, toolkits, and rudimentary scheduling software to cobble together automated batch processing solutions becomes cost-prohibitive, inefficient, and error-prone, as the number of moving parts increases and the environment becomes more heterogeneous.

Knowledge and strategic relationships fuel many organizations in today’s rapidly changing, global economy. As such, organizations need to leverage the individuals—and their networks—that possess the most relevant knowledge, whether they are current employees or are only loosely connected to the organization. To do this, organizations should create and leverage peer collaboration networks that enable them to identify and connect with individuals who have the unique skills, knowledge, and capabilities these organizations need. Bersin’s Research, Why Reputations and Networks Matter in the Open Talent Economy, indicates that this approach works in driving value—organizations that have effectively used internal reputation networks and profile databases have been able to increase key metrics such as employees’ time to productivity and innovation levels.

One of the leading ways that today’s organizations are providing secure, reliable and scalable answers for their networking needs is through MPLS IP-VPN network usage. However, businesses are also looking to create Intelligent WAN that integrates security, application performance management, and cloud services in order to create more intelligent wide area networks. This paper examines how to use the attributes of MPLS-based VPNs to enable enterprises to create a truly intelligent WAN, discussing key planning, implementation and management considerations to pave the way for a more intelligent and cloud-enabled WAN.

At its Build conference in May, Microsoft took the wraps off Cosmos DB, the new incarnation of its existing cloud-based Azure DocumentDB NoSQL database. With a nod to the dramatic, Microsoft terms Cosmos DB as its biggest database bet since SQL Server; it is positioning it as its flagship cloud database, suited for use cases ranging from security and fraud detection, to IoT (consumer and industrial), personalization, e-commerce, gaming, social networks, chats, messaging, bots, oil and gas recovery and refining, and smart utility grids. Cosmos DB is a good example of how cloud platform providers are rethinking databases for scalable, elastic environments and commodity infrastructure. The platform that is most comparable is Google Cloud Spanner, but each of these databases is engineered for different purposes: Cosmos DB as a globally distributed operational database and Spanner as a globally distributed SQL-supporting OLTP database. The highlights of Cosmos DB include its flexibility in

The challenges presented by multiple Value-Added Networks (VANs) and managing diverse trading partners create barriers to the efficiencies promised by EDI. Multiple providers mean multiple points of failure with no one entity to hold accountable. Also, as trading communities grow, end-to-end supply chain visibility becomes an essential operational requirement.

When looking at networking basics, understanding the way a network operates is the first step to understanding routing and switching. The network operates by connecting computers and peripherals using two pieces of equipment; switches and routers. Switches and routers, essential networking basics, enable the devices that are connected to your network to communicate with each other, as well as with other networks. Though they look quite similar, routers and switches perform very different functions in a network.

A transformation is taking place in how people interact and how relationships form and develop and this is changing the way we socialise, the way we work and the way we engage with our customers. The new normal is that customers are leading the conversations that define your brand, competitors are crowd-sourcing ideas to bring new offerings to market and employees are using social media in all facets of their lives, including work. This shift in technology and human behaviour presents an opportunity for organisations to improve everything from reinventing customer relationships to how work gets done. A Social Business embraces networks of people to create business value and activates networks of people that apply relevant content and expertise to improve and accelerate core and ad hoc processes, delivering unprecedented return for the time invested.

Companies rely on knowledge assets, such as product formulas and customer databases. VPNs and network monitors can protect proprietary information from outsiders; but, they won't do much to prevent access by internal users. With the popularity of wireless networks, USB drives and other portable devices, it's all too easy for insiders to leak key data. This white paper explains how Trend Micro LeakProof 3.0 protects sensitive data at rest, in use, and in motion.
