Today, despite massive investments in data, IT infrastructure, and analytics software, the adoption of analytics continues to lag behind. In fact, according to Gartner, most organizations fail to hit the 30% mark—meaning more than 70% of people at most organizations are going without access to the critical information needed to perform to the best of their abilities. What’s stopping organizations from breaking through the 30% barrier and driving the pervasive adoption of intelligence? Simple. The majority of existing tools only cater to users who are analytically inclined—the analysts, data scientists, and architects of the world. In today’s increasingly mobile world, Energy workers require instant communication and access to data intelligence wherever the job may take them. From the oil rig to the electric grid and everywhere in between, having the right data, in the right hands, at the right time, no matter the environment or device of choice — is simply non-negotiable. Organizations across various Energy segments — oil & gas, electric utilities, water utilities, and mining — are currently juggling a mix of communication devices and are hindered by gaps in coverage, poor battery life and fragile equipment that cannot withstand harsh environmental conditions. Yet, citizens rely on their homes being heated in the winter, on clean running water, and on lights that turn on when they flip the switch. Meeting these expectations requires reliable, clear voice and data communications for Energy workers day-in and day-out. So oil & gas workers can communicate safely in hazardous environments. So precious resources are

Baseball has always collected in-game data. However, until recently, fans didn’t have easy access to the various statistics that coaches used for key decisions important for the development of the players and success on the baseball field. It’s not unlike how traditional business intelligence is delivered. Data and reports are set aside for a few experts who determine what is important for you. Today, baseball statistics are widely available during broadcasts on TV, PCs and mobile devices. Basic data displays like inning and score are enhanced with metrics meaningful to students of the game, such as pitch speed, strikeout percentages and hit zones. It’s a good example of vital information being delivered in real-time, on demand and in context.

There has been much speculation (not to mention exaggeration) over recent years about the fabled dark web. We’ve heard how this shady underworld is the refuge of the cybercriminal elite, and even nation-state threat actors. That this is their “Wolf’s Lair,” where they gather to plot the breaching of businesses, the downfall of governments, and the hacking of celebrities. As with much mainstream reporting of technology, and cyber threats in particular, there’s a grain of truth here. This less accessible and more volatile corner of the internet as we know it does offer those with less honourable motive a secret marketplace for their wares. The confusing terminology around what the dark web is or isn’t shouldn’t be a barrier to defenders realizing the anonymous communities, and how it can be used to produce valuable threat intelligence.

A major shift has occurred with Identity and Access Management (IAM) in the past few years. Organizations have realized that the traditional approach to IAM doesn't work. It doesn't work because IT doesn't have the context to make the decisions around access. It's the lines of business that have the intelligence and business context to make decisions about Identity and Access Management.

With decisions riding on the timeliness and quality of analytics, business stakeholders are less patient with delays in the development of new applications that provide reports, analysis, and access to diverse data itself. Executives, managers, and frontline personnel fear that decisions based on old and incomplete data or formulated using slow, outmoded, and limited reporting functionality will be bad decisions. A deficient information supply chain hinders quick responses to shifting situations and increases exposure to financial and regulatory risk—putting a business at a competitive disadvantage. Stakeholders are demanding better access to data, faster development of business intelligence (BI) and analytics applications, and agile solutions in sync with requirements.

But what can be done to steer your organization down the path to greater success?
